Preview Box Score Recap

The Sartell Muskies bounced back from an exhibition loss to Fort Ripley (ranked #1 in the state in class C) with a win over the Brainerd Bees 15-5 to improve to 10-5 (6-2 Lakewood) on the year.

A night after being one hit in the Lakewood/Victory League challenge, the Muskies’ bats came alive for 19 hits and 15 runs, including three homeruns in a run-rule shortened 7 inning game in Brainerd Sunday afternoon.

The Muskies took an early lead on an opposite field fence scraper, 2-run homerun by catcher Luke Sweeter in the second inning. The Bee’s scored in the bottom half on an RBI single by Matt Peterson, who was cut down trying to take second on the play by a strong throw from Adam Schellinger from the right centerfield gap to end the threat.

First baseman Jake Sweeter extended the lead to 4-1 in the top of the third on a 2-run shot of his own and the Muskies looked like they might run away with the game.

The Bees had other ideas as they scored four runs in the inning to take a 5-4 advantage. It was all Muskies from there as they put together a couple of big innings to gain a comfortable lead which was capped by a Paul Schumer 3-run shot off reliever Tim Martin to make it 15-5.

Luke Sweeter led the team with four hits, four runs. Adam Schellinger added 3 hits, 3 RBI’s, and a pair of doubles. Brian Schellinger added 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Paul Schumer had 2 hits, 3 RBI’s, and 2 runs scored.

Adam Wenker went all 7 innings to pick up the win, he scattered 6 hits while striking out five batters. He also had 3 hits and 2 RBI’s at the dish to help his cause.
